Book Talk at DP Architects (and What To Do When PPT Fails You)

It has been two months since the launch of my first book The FAQ Book on Public Speaking but it felt like a year, thanks to the flurry of PR events organized by my team.

Till date, we have been featured on most major media publications - Business Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Team NS magazine (Mar) and Her World magazine (Apr). We were interviewed live on TV by Channel News Asia and on radio by News Radio 93.8 (The Living Room & F Cube)

Here’s Why Some Speakers Are Paid $10,000 For Just A 40 Mins Speech

I first got an inkling of why some speakers are paid an eye-popping sum of money from an interview with Tom Antion. (He claimed in the interview that he can easily pocket US $245,000 for one weekend training. No kidding!) For your information, Tom is one of the better known speakers in States who was recently invited to teach at the humor college.

Now, I know what you are thinking… this guy is a professional, Eric. Plus he is considered a celebrity in the speaking industry. Of course he is going to be paid a lot of money.

Speech Coaches Going Crazy! (Yuan Ching, 15 - 16th Feb 2008)

It has been a crazy month for us (me and the other four speech coaches - Doris, Danny, Gary and Sabrina!) as we travel around Singapore working with adrenalin pumping kids (or monkeys as some teachers fondly call them by). Our first stop was Yuan Ching Secondary School who have the most adorable teens. Check out some of the pics we snapped along the way.

Check out the L.O.V.E in the air… (grins)

That’s Sabrina monkeying with the kids! Doris is in the far right.. our disciplinarian.

Top Three Myths About Public Speaking (Preview To Her World Article)

Yes, I am going to be on the April’s issue of Her World magazine as their “public speaking guru”. Was a teeny weeny bit disappointed because I thought the editor wanted me to be on their list of 50 eligible bachelors (coughs) where female readers can oogle at.

Oh well… at least I can now claim to be on a woman’s magazine right? The writer Zarelda asked very good questions. There were two in particular that will definitely be in version 2.0 of The FAQ Book on Public Speaking (more about it later) - (1) What are the myths revolving around public speaking? (2) What are some of the problems that female public speakers face?

You At The Back. Yes, You… (How Do You Manage An Effective Q & A Session?)

Q & A sessions aren’t exactly very popular among speakers. As one of the professional speakers, Barry Gibbons, said “My experience tells me that these sessions are high-risk, low-reward interludes for everybody involved” He is right. In fact, I know of a lot of professional speakers who will talk the organizers out of having one. Here’s why.

How To Create Observational Humor?

Hello! It has been a while since I blogged on The Public Speaking Blog. My excuse this time - Chinese New Year! It’s a week long of spring cleaning, shopping for clothes, decorating the house, baking new year goodies and more. And then today is the eve of Chinese New Year where we just had our reunion dinner, very similar to Thanksgiving in America.

In the coming week, we will be visiting all our relatives and friends and it is going to be really tough to get some time off to blog. But I will do my best alright! Meanwhile, I shall share with you an interview starring John Kinde, the very funny man who has a knack for observational humor.

Watch Eric’s Virginal TV Appearance on Prime Time Morning (Channel News Asia)

It was really awesome to be on live national TV and to be sitting so close to Suzanne and Dominic whom I have been watching from my TV set for the past one year. The highlight of the morning has to THIS! (scroll down to see the photo)

I was grinning away like a thirteen year old schoolboy for the entire day… even now.

Ok you must be wondering - what’s the occasion?
