And That’s How In Short We Will Conquer The World!

Was reminded of an important lesson a couple of minutes ago as I was preparing for this evening’s communications workshop: Schmooze Your Way To Success - How To Build A Personal Network That You Can Count On.

Something that is straightforward and simple to you may not necessarily be the case for your audience. This is a blindspot that often many speakers commit. The curse of being too familiar with their own materials.

I was running through my materials with my sister and somehow I felt that what I am going to teach today may appear too simple. And that was when she reminded me that something simple to me may not necessarily be so for the audience. Especially since I have done so much research on the topic, there is a tendency for me to overwhelm the audience with too much information. Make sense.

So the next time you prepare for a presentation or a speech, get someone who resembles your audience’s background to listen in. Their feedback would be extremely precious if you want to delight your audience!

Wish me luck.
