Friday Special: A Seth Godin Idea That Did Not Spread

Late last year, I started the Friday special that went down in flames after a month. 3 reasons why. Laziness, laziness, laziness. Not necessarily in that order. And then early this year, fellow blogger Andrew Dlugan did us a big favor by giving a low down on 86 public speaking blogs. And instead of visiting each site to sieve out the good stuff, I did something really lazy (to my credit).

I got my staff to send an email to every blogger in the list whom I have yet befriended and made a virtual handshake. Even got them to send me some of their best articles so that I can share them with YOU, my most revered reader. This way, I can save time and still add immense value to you. To start, I have Rowan from Fortify Your Oasis to share with you a couple of his best articles. By the way, he lives in Dublin, Ireland (how awesome!)

My personal favorite - Really Bad PowerPoint - A Seth Godin Idea That Did Not Spread

Apparently, Seth the man, likes it as well.

In this witty entry, Rowan listed down 11 common diseases that presenters are often plagued by. Some of my favorites include:

Ass Narcissism (N’arse’issism) - “I’m just going to turn my back on you now and read all my slides off the screen. Enjoy the view!”

“I’m Eclipse Boy!” - “There must be some moth in my genetic heritage; but you can read the slide off my chest can’t you?”

Dispunctional - the presenter has no concept of time and is eating into the next presenter’s slot or, worse yet, into coffee break.

Click here to read the other 8. If you want more laughs, check out a standup comedy rountine on bad powerpoint.

Once you are done with his witty entry, you can move on to something that is highly visual. He created a slideshare presentation to explain how we can use visuals to enhance our presentations.

I like slide 37 best because if you get this, you are on your way to become a much appreciated speaker by your audience. Happy clicking!

Cheers,
