I was given special access to Brad Montgomery’s new humor program aptly branded as “The Humor College” to see if I felt the program was worth recommending to you. I finally got down to reviewing the program and here’s what I think about The Humor College.

First Impressions
When I first learned about the humor college, I was sold for a couple of reasons.

The concept itself was already a winner. Brad will interview six heavyweight, top-tier pros and grill them for their best ideas, their best tactics, and their best techniques on how to make your presentations funnier. And how to do it fast. From my experience, that’s the fastest and most effective way to master any skill.

Plus… these six heavyweight are highly paid speakers that charge a few thousands dollars for one coaching session. To get all six of them together, that’s unprecedented. Check out the all stars line up:

The Good

Personally I think the program is a real bargain especially since you get to learn directly from six of the highest paying speakers in America. They charge an average of $1000 for personal coaching, so that means $6000. However you are only a miniscule amount of $300. That’s like just 1/20 of the total!

The questions that Brad asked were also spot on and incisive so the experts can’t get away with superficial answers. Take Doug Stevenson for example. One of the strategies he shared about being funny is to tell an imbroglio story (acutely embarassing situation). He explained why and even shared one. However Brad did not stopped there. He drilled down further and asked Doug to share with us the specific steps that we have to take to write, edit and deliver one. Brad also asked many incisive question for example: What if the speaker is not comfortable sharing an embarrassing story, what should he do?

I was also impressed with the complimentary services that Brad is offering. On top of listening live for the interviews, you will get to download the recording (in mp3) on the members’ page straight after the interview. It took less than a day. This means that you can listen to the interview a gazillion times! He will even send you all six transcripts (as an ebook) so that you can study them directly. This will also save you the ardous task of typing!

And this is not all. He will ship you - for free - six CDs with the recording regardless of where you are!

The Bad
What I thought could have been done better is to have Brad solicit questions from us a few days before the interview. This will give us ample of time to research about the expert and think of intelligent questions that we can ask. Allocating more time for our questions to be answered will also increase the perceived value of the program tremendously.

There is no forum or communication mediums for participants to interact with one another. This is a shame because I am very sure we have a lot of thoughts on what we have heard. Having a forum will faciliate information exchange and also create more learning opportunities. For example, someone in the program may have chance upon a book or a site that can help answer some of my questions.

People who signed up have a common goal - to be funnier. Why not have them talk to one another? Give them a chance to exchange war stories. Interest groups may form. And more importantly, through the conversations, Brad have a better idea of our pains and what we need. This will help him fine tune the program or even offer more assistance to making us funnier speakers.

Too Tempting Not To Try!

The humor college definitely has room for improvement. But as it stands, I still find it extremely valuable for non-humorists and humorists. Personally I think it is too tempting not to try, especially since you get to hear from six of the best speakers in States, who can have their audience laughing anytime they want. Won’t you want that yourself? I know I will!

Besides, Brad offered a no risk offer which means that you can request for a refund (in 60 days), with no questions asked. The early bird price still stays (at $297), as of today, but I am not sure when he is going to raised it up to $497. It’s your choice ultimately.
