The Best Speeches Are Never Written…
It’s really late here in Singapore. About 2am. So let me get this post out real quick before I go to bed. It’s really important you read this. Tell you why later.
Seth Godin, the guy behind many top-notch marketing books recently made an observation…
Turns out that for the last twenty-seven years, every single movie that managed to win the Oscar for best picture was also nominated for best editing.
What does that tell you?
Like a movie, your speech will never be good the first time. It takes a lot of editing before your speech shines. So if you want to do well in your next speech, make sure you spend time testing your speech in front of a real audience.
Get a few friends together and run the speech by them.
Video tape yourself so that you can objectively identify what works and what doesn’t.
Call up another few friends and test your stories or analogies.
Make sure they are effective. Meaning to say, if they are suppose to laugh, they laugh. If they are suppose to be inspired, they get inspired.
Remember… the best speeches are never written, they are rewritten.
