The Shortest And Most Powerful Tip I Have Ever Received
With the holidays around the corner (New Year Day & Chinese New Year), the timing is simply perfect for me to share with you this quick tip that is short yet powerful. Before I reveal it to you, let me first set up the context.
One of the most powerful ways a speaker can connect with their audience is through personal stories. Here’s why. Stories are sticky and highly memorable. When you frame your lessons or messages in a story, your audience remembers them better. Stories are also easy to tell (think bedtime stories and Chicken Soup). Audience also relate better especially if your stories are personal.
“But Eric, I don’t have a good story to tell…”
Not if you PAY ATTENTION! (That’s the tip I wanted to share with you by the way)
If you pay enough attention, you will bound to find many interesting and funny stories, soaked with valuable lessons that you can share with your audience in the coming year. It could be something wacky that your family member did, an unusual encounter that you face while on a vacation or a scene you witness while partying with your friends.
So this holiday, I want you to raise your story antenna full mast and PAY ATTENTION. Jot down all the ideas and stories. As Darren aptly points out, “this could be the greatest gift you give to your audience in 2008!”
Cheers,
Eric Feng

P.S: We are still in the midst of uploading all the pictures taken (over 500!) at last Sat’s book launch party. Appreciate your patience in waiting. Meanwhile, here’s some that my photographer Maurice sent me this morning. Enjoy!

The star of the evening!

That’s Irene Ang, homegrown celebrity autographing the BIG book.

Ain’t the book lucky to have two pretty girls holding it? (Iris & Huimin)

Irene sharing her thoughts on the book project (we will be posting the footage on youtube early next year, will inform you when it is ready)

That’s me & the book (my baby!)

That’s Kelvin (my co-author) and Rebecca (another pretty babe). Of course, the prettiest is still the book.

Cheers! (From Left: Andrew, Kelvin, Irene, Eric, Kok Hwa - our publisher, Vicki - our book cover designer)
More to come - watch this space! Remember, pay attention!
