You Can Raise The Audience’s Confidence In You Just By Doing This

This is a guest post written by a new online friend of mine, Perrine Oh. He found The Public Speaking Blog via The FAQ Book on Public Speaking and later initiated a really thoughtful email. To cut the long story short, I read 10 entries he wrote in one seating. My conclusion - this guy can write! And one of the articles that stood out is the one that you are going to reading right now. Do you know a simple secret to increase both your social power and earning potential? The secret is simply to start increasing your vocabulary today. Research studies have shown that a strong vocabulary is the most noticeable performance characteristic shared by successful professionals. This result corroborates with the study by scientist Johnson O’Connor, which showed a correlation between vocabulary with executive level and income.

Stop and think about what this provocative research reveals. Everyday that you’re without the right vocabulary words, you’re letting opportunity, potentially more income, respect, and status slip through your hands.

It doesn’t matter if you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a new wardrobe, hair dew, or appearance enhancers … because if you don’t have an impeccable vocabulary to match, your first impression is blown.

Words matter. Every time you speak, people formulate opinions of you and judge you by what you say. Say the wrong things, and people will form bad judgments and opinions of you. Say the right things, and people will respect you, admire you, and windows of opportunity will swing open up for you.

These facts cannot be disputed. It therefore makes sense that if you want to improve the quality of your life and potentially make more money; you need to first start with developing your vocabulary.

Let me ask you another question. Do you truly want to enjoy a higher level of success and command more respect, opportunity, and earning potential just like people in the top income-earning bracket do?

If you said “Yes” then you must get started developing your vocabulary muscle.

Communication is your door to financial wealth, loving relationships, and all that is good in life. Communication is the most talked about and least understood area of human behavior. Our ability to communicate in so many modes is unique to humans on earth. People who do not have the ability to speak can be wonderful communicators. The loss of one or two senses certainly can impair communication, but it does not have to stop communication.

Effective communication is rarely taught and even more rarely learned in our society. Master the art of communication and remember, superior communication skills are unquestionably vital to living a life by design.

To add on to what he has said, a speaker with strong vocabularly will score more points with the audience because it hints of flair and eloquence. But before you go crazy with the thesarus, I like to clarify. I am NOT asking you to use big words for the sake of using them. Instead, I will like you to be put in more effort in the words that you use. Be precise!

So rather than the usual “nice”, “big”, “small”, “good”, “happy”, replace them with more colourful and meaningful words like “a gentleman”, “bulky”, “tiny”, “superior” or “on cloud nine!”. I know of people who will make an effort to learn a new word everyday. If you like to be one of them, you can try this site. They provide you with a word that you can use in your everyday conversations.
